Ask About Septoplasty

Septoplasty straightens the septum — the wall of cartilage and bone dividing the two nostrils — when it's deviated enough to obstruct airflow and cause breathing difficulty, chronic congestion, or frequent sinus problems. Unlike rhinoplasty, septoplasty is a functional procedure focused on the internal airway rather than the external shape of the nose, though the two are frequently performed together (septorhinoplasty) when patients want to address both breathing and appearance.

The procedure is performed entirely through the nostrils, with no external incisions or visible scarring, repositioning or trimming the deviated cartilage and bone to open up the airway.

Because a deviated septum can be present from birth or result from injury later in life, candidates range widely in age — the deciding factor is the degree of functional obstruction, generally assessed with an in-person examination.
