Breast reduction removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce breast size and reshape the breasts, most often to relieve the physical symptoms of overly large breasts — neck, shoulder, and back pain, skin irritation beneath the breast crease, and restricted physical activity. Many patients pursue it for both symptom relief and improved proportion with the rest of their frame.
The procedure repositions the nipple and areola to a higher, more natural position while removing tissue, using an incision pattern chosen based on how much reduction is needed — commonly an anchor-shaped or vertical (lollipop) pattern. Because tissue and skin are both reduced, results are generally more immediate and stable than non-surgical alternatives, which don't exist for this degree of size reduction.
