Recovery
1–2 weeks off work; swelling and firmness continue to settle over the following weeks, with final shape apparent around 3–6 months.
A breast lift (mastopexy) raises breasts that have sagged due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight change, or the natural effects of gravity and ageing over time — repositioning breast tissue and removing excess skin to restore a more youthful contour, without significantly changing breast volume. Patients who also want more volume often combine a lift with implants in the same operation.
The degree of sagging (ptosis) determines the incision pattern needed: milder cases may need only an incision around the areola, while more significant sagging typically requires a vertical or anchor-shaped incision to remove enough excess skin and reposition the nipple-areola complex higher on the breast.
Because a lift addresses position and shape rather than volume, patients who want both a lift and a size increase should discuss combining it with implants or fat transfer during consultation.
