Ask About Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is the surgical term for what's commonly known as a tummy tuck: removal of excess abdominal skin combined with repair of the underlying rectus muscles, which can separate (diastasis recti) after pregnancy or major weight fluctuation. The extent of the procedure — full, mini, or extended — depends on how much skin and muscle laxity is present.

A full abdominoplasty addresses the entire abdomen, from the pubic area to above the navel, with a hip-to-hip incision. A mini-abdominoplasty treats a smaller area below the navel for patients with more limited laxity. In all versions, the goal is a flatter, firmer abdominal contour and a tighter muscle wall — something diet and exercise cannot achieve once skin has stretched or muscle has separated.

Suitability depends on overall health, stable weight, and — for patients planning future pregnancies — a willingness to wait, since pregnancy after abdominoplasty can undo the muscle repair.
